"Kansas-Nebraska Campers on
Mission"
The Kansas-Nebraska Campers
on Mission team came to take on the Alpha House kitchen renovation
during August 2004. Many friends of Alpha had provided the funds
needed to buy the materials for the project, and the C.O.M. group
provided the professional labor to get the job done. The children
and staff at Alpha were very grateful for their hard work, and the
end results were a beautiful, new kitchen for the kids. The ladies
of the group also gave us a hand, taking on the preparation of
Campbell's Labels for redemption. Their job was to cut, sort, and
count the thousands of labels that had been sent in by friends of
Alpha over the previous months.
Kansas-Nebraska Campers On Mission
takes on 4-6 short-term mission projects per year that are usually
about a week long. They are a non-denominational Christian Organization
that connects volunteers with mission needs. They have made Christmas
stockings to send to needy Mexican children; made 200-300 quilts
a year for needy Mexican families; gone on mission trips involving
renovations & new construction;
provided assistance when Red Cross Disaster Relief calls; and they
have taken on winter projects in Texas, Arizona, and Florida. You
can obtain more information about joining the C.O.M. group or receiving

Installation of Deck
In 1999 the big project was to replace the rotting deck and fire escape on the Alpha House. It had been built in 1972 and was rotting and badly in need of replacement. Many churches, individuals, and groups raised extra funding to help with material purchases. The Detroit Christian Church, Pittsfield, Illinois, came for a week to tear down the old and install quite a lot of the new (this back and side of the deck pictured here). Later the Skyline Heights Christian Faith Center, Eskridge, Kansas, came to finish up the work on the front side of the Alpha House. What a fabulous blessing that deck / fire escape is to all the children in the Alpha House! Be sure to check it out when you come to visit. When you walk out onto it, you almost feel as if you are up in the trees. Beautiful!
Window Installation for Alpha House
Kansas-Nebraska Campers on Mission
The Alpha House was in desperate need of replacement of all the originally installed windows in the house built in 1972. They were falling out! With the help of all of the friends of Alpha, we were able to purchase new vinyl, double-hung windows for the entire house! Members of the Kansas-Nebraska Campers on Mission group brought their RVs out for a week in August 2003 and worked on getting all those windows installed for us. They are truly a wonderful group of people.
Basketball Courts for Alpha House and Hope House
Northland Christian Church, Topeka, Kansas
Basketball courts were needed for the two children's houses, and Northland Christian Church, Topeka, Kansas, came to the rescue! They provided the funding needed for all the materials and labor, and even arranged all the details necessary to have the courts laid out, poured with concrete, and basketball poles and goals installed! The children have greatly benefited from having these wonderful additions to their backyards!
ABATE's Annual Alpha Bowling League -
3rd Sunday in January at Southwest Bowl in Topeka, Kansas
Bikers bowling for the kids! ABATE of Kansas, District 4, Topeka, Kansas, has an annual bowling league day in Topeka to benefit the kids at Alpha. We appreciate the time they take to hold this benefit event and the extra funds they raise to help the kids. They even sponsor Alpha's kids for an afternoon of bowling along with them that day; of course, the kids are thrilled to join them!
